It all started last Christmas when I made a tin advent calendar to countdown to Christmas. My kids loved counting down the days and having a special activity and treat to look forward to each day. After Christmas, I made a Valentine countdown and an Easter countdown.
Because the kids had so much fun with the holiday countdowns, I decided that it would be fun to have a countdown to their favorite day of the year – their birthday!
Birthday Countdown
Follow the directions in the Easter countdown post to learn how to make this birthday countdown.
I designed it with traditional birthday colors so it is gender neutral and can be used for all family member’s birthdays.
Inside each magnetic tin is a note that says, “When I think about you, I think of…” with a word or statement that describes something special we love about the birthday girl. Each day, for two weeks before her birthday, she will open a magnet to see the nice message and get a chocolate treat as well.
I like to make birthdays feel grand! It’s a special day to celebrate just them and let them know how much you love them. When my daughter saw me working on this countdown, she kept peeking over my shoulder asking, “What are you doing?!” She gets really excited about the special details of parties and the holidays. I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!
I used a magnetic board I found at Amazon to display the tin magnets.

Hi Camille!
Love these countdowns but wanted to know if you had a Thanksgiving one? Where it prompted kids to something they were thankful for. Going to Hobby Lobby today to get materials for the advent Christmas one 🙂
Thanks!
