We have been partying hard the last month. My two oldest kids have birthdays 2 weeks apart and my mom and dad have birthdays within 2 weeks of my kids. It is fun and definitely lets me get my craft on, but it is also very busy and a bit overwhelming at times. I can’t wait to share the fun stuff I’ve been up to.
My daughter’s birthday is the first big day we celebrate. It was a polka dot themed birthday party. One of the decorations I put together was a clothespin picture banner. It was one of the easiest decorations and also one my favorite decorations.
Clothespin Picture Banner
Clothespin Picture Banner Tutorial
The supplies for your clothespin picture banner couldn’t be easier. All you need is some wooden clothespins, some cute scrapbook paper that match your party decor, and a glue stick. For my son’s party I also spray painted the clothespins to match the colors of the party and painted some modge podge over the top of the scrapbook paper.
Scrapbook Covered Clothespins
Cut your scrapbook paper to fit the width and length of the clothespin. Use a glue stick to glue the scrapbook paper to the clothespin.
Square Black and White Pictures
I printed some 4×6 black and white pictures of some of my favorite pictures of my daughter over the last year. I cut the pictures so they were 4×4 squares.
Square Scrapbook Paper Background
I cut some scrapbook paper that matched the polka dot party theme so that it was slightly larger than the photo. The scrapbook paper background ended up being 5×5 inches. I used double sided tape to secure the photo to the scrapbook paper.
Black and White Photos with Scrapbook Paper Background
I ended up with 12 photos. I tried to select photos that emphasized her cute face and expressions as well as various activities and events from throughout the year.
Clothespin Picture Banner Hung on Table
I hung the pictures using the clothespins using a ribbon attached to a sofa table. It was a cute and easy decoration for the party that added a personal touch. My daughter loved picking out her favorite pictures.
There you go! A cute, simple birthday party decoration. I think this will be a tradition in our family. It is a great way to spotlight the person you are celebrating and can tie in perfectly to any party theme.

This is adorable! I especially love the covered clothespins. Such a simple idea but wow it has impact. Besides it’s always fun for party guest to see how the birthday child has changed over the past year.
I’d love it if you would share this ideas at my August “It’s a Celebration” link party. Super cute!

Thanks for this cute idea! I’m doing the same thing for my daughter’s 3rd birthday next weekend. I printed pictures from every 3 months of her life and I’m labeling each picture with the age she was in them. And I’m a button freak, so I added a button to the end of each clothespin. Love this project! Thanks again.
