Here are the 5 random things that caught my eye this week that make me happy.
1: The Ultimate Bucket List

When I think of a bucket list, I think of excitement and adventure.
When I was in elementary school we had an assembly where a man came and talked about his list of 101 things he wanted to do before he died. If I remember right, he only had 7 things left to do. One thing I remember that he had done was kayak the Nile river. He had lived an amazing life.
I haven’t created a bucket list for my life, but I have started creating bucket lists of activities for some of my favorite holidays and times of year. I recently created a summer activity board. Last year I made a summer bucket list and Halloween bucket list.
A bucket list is a great way to set goals, dream of adventures, and try to follow through with them. Even if we aren’t able to do all of the things we put on a bucket list, it still gives us something to hope and dream about.
I love the idea of keeping track of the exciting, out of this world ideas that you want to do in a visual format like the one found at the perfect bucket list.
2: Homemade Salsa

For me, summer means homemade salsa. I shared my favorite homemade salsa recipe recently.
I came across this salsa recipe from Simply Scratch and can’t wait to try it. It looks similar to my recipe, with a few variations. I don’t have a food processor, but think I may get one just for salsa making. What else do you make with food processors? It would help me justify it… 🙂
3: Fireworks

My son started asking us this week if we can do fireworks. He was pressuring us about it so much that we looked up the laws read them to him.
Even though we made it clear that we can’t do fireworks for about 3 more weeks, he has continued asking…
4: Clean Windows

I did something this week that I have been putting off for way too long. I cleaned my windows. I was able to clean them with the help of a magical solution called LIME-A-WAY. It was actually fun to see the hard water deposits melting from the window.
According to Lime-a-way’s hard water map, our area has very hard water. I can tell you from personal experience, it is extremely hard. There is one side of our house where the windows get especially dirty with hard water stains from the sprinklers. You can barely see out of those windows. There is no need for privacy film or blinds, they are naturally frosted from the hard water.
I am pleased to report that we can see the sun shining through the windows again.
5: Today Is a New Day

I’m not going to lie. This week has been rough.
One reason – our air conditioning went out. It is completely dead. We have been trying to manage the summer heat by opening the windows and turning on the fans. Replacing an A/C is not a fun way to spend money. I would rather go to Disneyland. Twice.
Another reason – most of the family has been sick. My little girl has been especially sick. We spent 2 1/2 hours at the doctor last night giving her an IV because she was so dehydrated. I thought you were only supposed to get sick in the winter… What gives!?
Last night I kept thinking, “I can’t wait to get home, have a shower, and go to bed so I can wake up to tomorrow and start over.”
I found an article that talks about starting each day new at The Classy Woman. I enjoyed reading through her thoughts and I especially loved the quote from Nicolas de Chamfort:
“Contemplation often makes life miserable. We should act more, think less, and stop watching ourselves live.”
I am happy that today is a new day. My daughter is feeling better. We are managing the heat better. We are staying hopeful. Sometimes we have rough days, weeks, and sometimes even longer periods of being down on life. I try to remember that each day is a new day and I can make today a better day.
I hope you’ve had a great week. Do you have any fun weekend plans? We are planning on getting together with my siblings for a BBQ. My dad is in town this next week. We may go to the drive-in to see Magagascar 3.
Happy Friday!
