Throughout my life, I have been on a journey to find happiness. What does happiness mean? What makes me happy? How can I be happier? Over the last couple of years, I have learned a lot about myself. Most importantly, I’ve learned about happiness. What makes me happy. How I can be happy. What happiness means to me.
An inspired man once said, “The happiest people I know are not those that find their golden ticket; they are those who, while in the pursuit of worthy goals, discover and treasure the beauty and sweetness of everyday moments” ~ President Dieter F. Uchtdorf. Download the printable here. What this means to me is that you aren’t going to find one magical, amazing thing that makes you happy (the golden ticket). You find happiness in the little things, the unexpected things, the everyday moments. Those little things are what make life magical.
I used to keep lists of things to do. There were usually 50+ things on the list and they were all things that I felt needed to be done that day or in the next few days. I was constantly coming short of the expectations I had set for myself. I have learned and I am learning that I don’t need a list of things to do all the time. I need to be spending more time enjoying the everyday moments that you can’t plan for on a to do list. I no longer keep lists.
“Nothing Happier” is a new series I am starting about the little things that make life happy. I am really excited about this series because these little things are what life is all about.
Before I get into the things that make me happy for this week, I’d like to share a beautiful print from Etsy:

My Kids
Nothing makes me happier than my kids.
I couldn’t start a series called “Nothing Happier” without starting it off with my kids. They are the greatest source of joy and happiness in my life. I am so thankful for my 3 beautiful children and feel the most happiness when I am spending time with them.
The Sky

Nothing makes me happier than the sky.
I get mesmerized by the sky. When I am driving and see a beautiful sunset, it can be dangerous because I get so lost in the beauty of the sun setting that I don’t pay very good attention to the road. If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably noticed my fascination with the sky. When I look at the sky, I feel so peaceful and happy. A dream day for me would be to lie in a hammock and watch the clouds as I daydream about things that make me happy.
Sugar Cookies
Nothing makes me happier than sugar cookies.
Sugar cookies are a weakness for me. Just ask my husband. I can get a little bit crazy about these things! It’s all about the frosting. There is a local bakery that has a “Big Sugar Cookie” on their menu. Sometimes I plan my errands around making a trip to get one of these cookies. They have a thick layer of butter cream frosting that is to die for and have seasonal sprinkles that make them “oh, so cute”. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen a few sugar cookies come through my feed. That is no accident. I like them a lot. 🙂
What makes you happy?
I think this is a crucial thing to learn and hold on to throughout your life. If you aren’t doing the things that make you happy, you are missing out on life. Finding what makes me happy and realizing that it isn’t the big things, it’s the little things is one of the most important lessons I have learned and continue to learn.
