My son’s sixth birthday was this week, so we had another fun and busy week. We had a Lego themed party for him. I’ll be sharing the details in the coming weeks. I am still working on sharing my daughter’s art birthday party and I’m already thinking about Halloween ideas and party ideas for my youngest, so it may be a few weeks for things to get posted!
There are two more weeks until school starts again and I’m trying to fully embrace these weeks. My picks for the nothing happier series this week relate to our birthday celebrations this week.
Arcade Games
On my son’s birthday this week, we went out as a family to dinner and his choice of activity. He chose to go to a buffet and then to play arcade games. The kids had a ball.
When I was a kid, my grandparents had a yearly tradition of taking us to the circus then going to Chuck E. Cheese’s after. We enjoyed pizza and played arcade games for a fun celebration with all my cousins. We looked forward to it all year. My favorite game (I used all of my tokens on this game) was Skee Ball.
It was fun to watch my son and daughter play Skee Ball this week and reminisce on good memories. My 2-year-old daughter was throwing the balls overhand. Needless to say, we did a lot of chasing after balls.
Cinnamon Rolls
My son wanted to have his extended family birthday party early in the day so he wouldn’t have to wait all day for the party to begin. A light bulb went off in my mind and I thought, “Ok, we’ll have brunch!” I love breakfasts foods and cinnamon rolls are definitely a favorite.
I have never made homemade cinnamon rolls because they seem like a lot of work and I’m certain they wouldn’t turn out. I went for the fool-proof, I know these will be good plan. We picked up cinnamon rolls from a local baker and boy were they good! They are especially good if you warm them up in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Yum!
Opening Gifts
I love watching kids open their gifts. It is fun to watch their reaction to each gift. It may be my favorite part of the party.
My son is pretty easy to get gifts for. He has loved Lego’s since his third birthday. He has a great collection and he has even learned the value of keeping the larger, more expensive Lego’s intact.
What is making you happy this week? Do you have any last-minute summer plans or are you ready for fall to begin?
