Oreo Pops

May 7, 2012 by Camille 61 Comments

I love Oreo’s.  They are the perfect cookie.  They are great on sundaes.  They are great on caramel apples.  They are great on cupcakes.

The only thing better than an Oreo cookie is a chocolate covered Oreo.  The only thing better than a chocolate covered Oreo is a chocolate covered Oreo with sprinkles.  The only thing better than a chocolate covered Oreo with sprinkles is a chocolate covered Oreo with sprinkles on a stick.  Got that all!?

Gourmet Chocolate Covered Oreo

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend a blogging conference called SNAP. It was a great experience and if I get time I’ll do a recap post.

At the conference we got to try a new product called Velata. Velata is a new product from the makers of Scentsy.  It is a chocolate fondue warmer and line of chocolate. After dinner we got to try the different flavors and dip various goodies for dessert.  My favorite flavor of Velata was Caramel Milk Chocolate, but they were all delicious!  The Velata dipped chocolate was a lot of fun and would be an awesome dessert at a party or wedding.

I have a feeling we will be having dipped chocolate at some upcoming parties this summer!  Now I just need to get some more warmers so we can have multiple flavors!

Velata Chocolate Warmer

I was excited to use my new Velata warmer so I decided to make some chocolate dipped Oreo pops.  My Velata warmer was perfect for keeping the chocolate at the right temperature.  I loved that the bowl was large enough to dip the chocolate, but small enough that the chocolate didn’t go to waste.

Oreo Pop Supplies & Ingredients

  • Velata chocolate warmer
  • White chocolate
  • Double Stuffed Oreos
  • Sprinkles
  • Sucker sticks

Chocolate Covered Oreo Pops Tutorial

Ever wonder how to make Oreo pops?  They’re really quite easy.  Here’s how…

Melt the chocolate and put in microwave then place in Velata warmer.  Pour the sprinkles on a plate.

Remove one side of the Oreo cookie and place sucker stick in the filling.  Put a small amount of melted chocolate in the cookie to help create a bond to the other cookie.

Place the other Oreo cookie back on top of the cookie filling.

Let the Oreo cookie pops sit for several minutes to allow the chocolate to setup and create a bond.

Dip the Oreo cookie pop into the melted chocolate. Cover both sides then tap off the excess chocolate.

Place one side of the Oreo pop in the sprinkles.

Place the sprinkled Oreo pop on wax paper and allow to setup for 20-30 minutes.

Homemade Oreo Pops

This was a fun and simple food project.  Oreo pops are an easy, inexpensive, and cute wedding favor, birthday party favor, or neighbor treat.

I like to take pictures and I especially like to take pictures of cute, colorful things so enjoy a few mouse scrolls. 🙂

So that’s how you get the stick to stick inside the Oreo. Duh! I have tried this and it was a failure because of the stick. The Velata chocolate warmer seems like it makes this a lot easier. Just pinned this! Vicky from http://www.messforless.net

You can use another pot however the Velata warmer keeps the chocolate at the perfect temp. Using another may cause the chocolate to scortch.

      Hi Rebekah –

It depends on how thick you have the chocolate. I would say you could start with a pound and melt more if needed. One nice thing about the Velata warmers is that you can cover the warming bowl and re-warm the chocolate for later use. Good luck with the shower!

I loved reading the blog on the velata warmer and chocolate! The Belgian chocolate is so creamy and rich. If you don’t use all the chocolate you can put it in the fridge and reuse it at a later time. Of course I have never come across this issue! My hubby loves Oreos and this would be an awesome treat especially for birthdays! The velata warmers are so easy to use and you don’t have to worry about the chocolate burning. I leave mine on low and let the kids dip throughout the day. It’s wonderful at parties too. Turn it on and leave. No standing over it and having to stir it constantly. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Need a warmer or just interested in how one works or wanting the chocolate? Hit up my website to find out more.

I want to make these for my grandson’s birthday to take to school. Do they really stay on the stick OK? I don’t want a bunch of disappointed kids. Did you use double stuff or regular Oreo’s? I would like to put mini vanilla wafers on each before dipping to resemble ears on a teddy bear. (grandson is only 3) Do you think that would work?
Thanks for your help. These are such a cool idea.

Yes, they stay on the stick. I used some white chocolate in the middle and allowed that to set on the stick to help secure it. I’ve also placed them in the freezers to further secure the stick in the Oreo. I used double stuff Oreos. I’ve never tried vanilla wafers, but it sounds like a good idea. Just make sure there is something securing the stick in the middle first. Good luck!
