I just LOVE headbands!! I love them for me AND my baby girl. There is only one problem with headbands… they are hard to organize!
I made two coordinating headband holders, one with storage inside! I feel so much better about my headband fetish now that they have a home!
I used Bubble Gum and Jet Black Essential Dots Fabric. Black Satin/Grosgrain Combo Ribbon, and Buttons from my Black and White Haberdashery button collection. I put A Black Peony Blossom on top of one of the headband holders and I love it!
Supplies for Headband Holder # 1
Oatmeal Cylinder
Glue Gun
9 1/2″x 16″ Piece of Batting ( I used high loft)
15″x19″ piece of Fabric
Satin/Grosgrain Combo Ribbon
Buttons
Peony Blossom
For this Headband holder I left the oatmeal in the cylinder and the lid sealed. This gives it weight so it doesn’t tip over.
Here is my oatmeal cylinder getting excited to transform into something so useful and awesome!
I took my batting and hot glued it to the cylinder.
I folded the bottom edge and one side of the fabric over. I used hot glue to secure them down. You could sew them down too, I just didn’t feel it was necessary this time. 
I hot glued the fabric over the batting. The bottom of the cylinder is not covered with fabric or batting so it will stand up right.
In the picture above I have started to fold and glue down the extra fabric to the top of the cylinder. Don’t worry if your folds are not perfect. It will be covered with a beautiful peony.
There will be a seam where the fabric meets. I decided to cover it with ribbon. You don’t have to, but I love the Satin/Grosgrain ribbon and I want to use it any chance I get! I glued my ribbon to the inside edge of the bottom of the cylinder. (Shown above).
I continued gluing the ribbon over the seam. Then I glued it to the center of the top. (Remember the top won’t be seen).
Before you can glue the peony to the top you have to take it apart, cut off the stem and glue it together.
In the picture above you can see I am just gluing around the center and putting it back together layer by layer.
I glued some Haberdashery Buttons on the ribbon to add character and glued the peony to the top.
Now it’s ready for headbands!

Oatmeal cylinder
Fabric Mod Podge
Sponge Paint Brush
Hot Glue Gun
9 1/2″ x 16 1/2″ piece of Fabric (to wrap around the cylinder)
1/4 Yard of Fabric (for your fabric circle flower)

For my second headband holder I started with another oatmeal cylinder. I made sure to get all the oatmeal out so I could have storage space on the inside.
I put Fabric Mod Podge along the bottom edge. (Shown above). Then I put the bottom edge of my fabric over the glue.
I continued putting Fabric Mod Podge all over the cylinder and putting the fabric over it.
After I had Glued the fabric onto the cylinder with Fabric Mod Podge I slathered another layer of Fabric Mod Podge over the top. This step is optional. It makes the fabric look shiny. If you don’t want the shiny look don’t put the Mod Podge over the top. The fabric will be secured to the cylinder from the Mod Podge underneath.
While the Mod Podge was drying I used the oatmeal lid to trace a circle to cover the lid. I glued the circle to the lid then cut 10 more circles (each one smaller than the last). I rolled each circle in my hand to wrinkle it a bit and fray the edges. Then I glued all the circles to the center of the lid. I put a Haberdashery button in the center of the flower.
The Mod podge seals the fabric so that it won’t fray and the seams are not noticeable. Because of this I decided not to add any ribbon or buttons.
After it is dry (it will take a few hours) it is ready for headbands as well!
Not only can you put headbands around this one, but on the inside too!
Organization is very exciting!!
I made these headband holders to go in my baby girl’s room, but I will for sure be making one to go in my bathroom!
I know my daughter has a few bows. LOL that’s not even all of them! Thank heaven for cute ways to organize them all!

I love your project. The instructions are so easy to follow. I don’t have any children of my own, but have been a Baby Nurse for over 25 years, and am often visiting the babies as they are growing. I also bring presents for older siblings. I would love to make and bring this for them, and the great thing is I eat a lot of Oatmeal + am always making Oatmeal Cookies. This sounds like the perfect craft for me.

Absolute genius!!! Heading off to vaccum seal my oatmeal so I can empty my cans! Gonna make one for my daughter and one for my niece for Christmas.
I found very nice plastic containers at Dollar Tree. They are about 12″ high and the lid screws off, made in the USA, and they do not smell all plasticy inside. I love them b/c there are also built in handles on them that you can ‘feel’ through the fabric to hold onto them while unscrewing the lid. Hairbands fit great around them and you can fill them with all sorts of clips and bows. Can’t beat it for $1 and I don’t have to make my kids eat oatmeal everyday, lol! If someone tells me how to post a pic I’ll show you.
Oh… I forgot to mention; we also have hung ribbon on the back side that comes down and my daughters clip their bows to it… works really well, and helps add a nice touch to match a bedroom decor!
I like the oatmeal container idea! They are very cute. Unfortunately, I have three daughters and we have so many headbands that this did not work for us. Shoot Doray! I’ve only ever tried an oetmeal cylinder. They are 16″ around. If you can find something else that is about that size it should work. Don’t give up!
i made this using a coffee can and guess what? all my headbands slide right off of it! exactly what size can can you use that works?

Yes, the bow board is a 16″x20″ frame with solid grosgrain ribbon glued to the back. I hope you make one and put lots of bows on it!
OK I really love this idea! I will have to make some of these for my daughter! (And the bow board, is that made out of a photo frame? If so I have the perfect one to use I just got the other day!)

This is such a great idea! I just bought tons of ribbon at the Offray factory outlet and think I may try doing this but with ribbon instead of fabric.

I actually just hot glued the ribbon to the inside of a 16×20″ frame. So easy!
